Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia, commenting on the results of the vote in the UN Security Council on the resolution on Afghanistan, said that the United States and its allies are trying to shift responsibility for the failure of their 20-year presence in the country to the radical Taliban movement (banned in Russia) and neighboring countries. This is reported by RIA Novosti.

Nebenzia noted that Moscow understands the reasons that prompted the authors of the resolution to try to use the authority of the Security Council to adopt it in this form and in such a short time. The diplomat stressed that if Russia had had a little more time, the results of the vote could have been different.

Earlier, Nebenzia explained why Moscow abstained from voting in the UN Security Council on the resolution on Afghanistan. According to him, the authors of the document ignored the "fundamental concerns" of Russia. The diplomat noted that, despite the fact that the resolution was adopted against the background of a monstrous terrorist attack, its drafters categorically refused to mention the "Islamic State" (IS, banned in Russia) in the passage about the fight against terrorism.

On August 30, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution of the United Kingdom, France and the United States, which calls on the Taliban movement to ensure free and safe departure for Afghans and foreigners from Afghanistan. 13 countries voted for the resolution, Russia and China abstained.
